My Network Marketing Breakthrough

My 2016 Goals – an Update From Me

I had a different plan in mind for today’s blog post.

Honestly, I wanted to write a blog post detailing the Broke Mans Plan.  The Broke Mans Plan is the program that I started working 6 months ago.

My plan is to explain the Broke Mans Plan is detail because I have been having tremendous success.  I found a program that works great for me. It fits perfectly into my lifestyle.

On reflecting on how amazing I am feeling right now, I took a step back and looked at my journey over the last 2 years.

It’s not often that we are able to pick an exact moment in our lives that absolutely changed who we are.  Many people never experience a shift like that.

I can say with absolute certainty that it happened to me.

At this point, you are probably wondering where I am going with this.

I’ll get to the point. I just wanted to share some backstory about how I experienced my Network Marketing breakthrough.

9 Months Ago

I want to go backwards 9 months and share with you my mentality at that time and where I was at.

I had joined It Works the prior year.  I was with them for an entire year.

The Plus Side

• I paid for my auto-ship faithfully each and every month.  I also used the products.


• In addition to that, I bought marketing materials and handed out blitz cards.


• I taught myself how to build a website using WordPress and I blogged daily.


• I began to generate leads using my website and using a strategy that involved giving away free samples to generate leads. It worked VERY well and I had more than enough leads.

The Negatives

• I was encouraged to turn my Facebook page into advertising space.


• I am a huge introvert and have not talked to many of my friends or family for years. I had a very small group of people I talked to. That was limited to about 3 people. (NOT GOOD…!)


• I had to message people I had not spoken to in years. I tried to persuade them to take a look at my business or buy my products. I went about contacting people completely wrong. I burned many bridges. I lost close friends and family due to the approach that I was using.


• There was no training at that time except the basic back office training. Everything that I learned, I learned from reading Network Marketing Pro and Rock your Network Marketing Business. There is a serious lack of really great Network Marketing books available. I’m sorry, but it is a fact. Most leaders/gurus/trainers have never done the things they are teaching. They get paid to market you a product. I lost quite a bit of money looking for someone to teach me the “magic” skills to make me rich.


• I was struggling at that time to keep food on the table. Even though both myself and my fiancee worked full time, there was NEVER enough money to go around. My car was repossessed while I was an It Works distributor and part of this was due to the insane amount of money I invested trying to learn what I needed to know to be successful. Every guru had the answer – for a small fee of $10,000. (Yes, I have been asked to invest $10,000 and even $5,000 just two days ago. Be very careful who you give your money to!)

I failed miserably.

I left It Works after being with them for a year. I had very limited support from my upline and even her upline. I just decided enough was enough. At some point, you have to realize when things just aren’t going right for you.

A Big Shocker..

I don’t blame It Works.

I don’t blame my upline.

The responsibility for failing truly does rest on my shoulders. That being said, though, I was learning a brand new skill for the first time.

If I could go back 9 months and talk to myself – I would say, “Barb, its okay. You are learning something new for the first time. Everything you need to be successful is inside of you. You already possess it. There is no guru in this world who can give you what it is you are looking for at this exact moment.

The truth is, Network Marketing changed me for the better. I learned that I was the type of person who had a determination of pure steel!

It would be utterly impossible to immerse yourself into a subject (like I did) and not learn thousands of different lessons.

Network Marketing truly is a make or break you kind of business.

It broke me.

I was broken into pieces when I made that video 9 months ago. I was lost and I had enough.

The tipping point came for me when Ray Higdon called me out on Social Media. I think that was when I realized that I didn’t want to be the person that I was.

I had severe anxiety. I was afraid to recruit. I was afraid to talk to people.

Network Marketing allowed me to keep pushing myself.

My self-esteem is stronger than ever. There is nothing in this world that I cannot do.

I Made It!

I really and truly made it. I have some big goals coming up for 2016. I want to put that video behind me because that was the old me. I’m not that person anymore.

I have accomplished so much in a short time frame. Really, it’s only been 9 months since I made that video but I have learned everything there is to know about myself.

I created not one, not two but three income steams from home.  My business is automated and works when I sleep. I took the time to learn digital marketing and it has changed my entire life.

The truth is, the old way of Network Marketing is broken. I’m saying that from my heart.

Home Parties? Hotel Meetings? Begging and Chasing Down your Friends and Family?

Those methods belong in the past because they don’t work anymore.

We live in a digital world today and you can connect with your perfect customer right now on: YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Xing .. the list goes on and on.

You can setup a $5.00 to $10.00 a day marketing budget and you never have to call one friend or family member.

These are skills that you can learn as well! Don’t be afraid because it might be a little technical. If this is really a dream of yours, take the time to learn the skills that will make you valuable.

Let Me Just Say

As a final add on to digital marketing – when it comes to Network Marketing – you want to keep the human element. You should be having meetings for your team and getting to know your teammates.

You also have to train them.

I work with my teammates until they feel comfortable and ready to work on their own. Keep the human element in your business.

This Years Accomplishments

• I read over 200 books on Network Marketing


• I learned Digital Marketing


• I know how to setup Ads on every Social Network


• I learned how to blog and setup a WordPress Website


• I learned how to setup an YouTube channel and post daily videos


• I learned how to create Sales and Capture Pages using Funnels


• I know how to write and publish a Kindle Book


• I can make killer graphics


• I created three separate income streams


• I learned how to use Final Cut Pro

This Years Goals

• I’m going to get the last of the training setup on my website over the next week. My plan is to teach home based business owners how to harness the power of the internet to recruit (with a human element..).


• I want to release a training detailing my free sample strategy and how I used it to generate over 5000 leads (you don’t even need a website..)


• I’m going to finish my team training here on the website


• I’m going to put a blogging training on the website


• I’m going to release a training on running ads on Social Media sites to generate leads


• I will be more visible on Social Media (especially YouTube..)

I look forward to continuing to connect here on the blog over the next year.
